Savoring Some Reminders of Christmases Past at Dirty Bird Antiques and Uniques

Sunday, December 12, 2021

It's always fun visiting an old friend, especially when that 'old friend' is filled with 'old treasures' and that's exactly what happened last Friday when John and I were in Schodack where we hopped across Route 9 from Bluebird Home Decor to pay a visit to the Dirty Bird Antiques and Uniques.

We initially visited and blogged about Dirty Bird Antiques and Uniques five years ago on the recommendation of Dolores at The Olde Mercantile, and we've been returning ever since.  Jim and Judi Matias transformed their huge 1800's barn into a wonderland of treasures - antiques and new items filling two giant floors from floorboard to rafter.

One of my favorite finds at Dirty Bird has always been the gorgeous hand-painted pieces by artist, Terri Littlefield.  Look at this old school desk and chairs below!  Terri has recently moved south so her pieces are even more coveted, and I am happy to be able to say I own a few of them.

These cuties are the handiwork of Nancy Keenholts.

Just like our first visit, time spent at Dirty Bird is a little like stepping back in time to my grandmother's home, especially with all the festive antique Christmas decor decking every hall and every nook.  The holiday season can get a little hectic and at times overwhelming, but a leisurely stroll around so many reminders of days gone by was just what the doctor ordered to slow the pulse and get in touch with what the holidays are all about.  Being reminded of loved ones from our past doesn't hurt either.
Find some time to take a drive to Schodack to visit Dirty Bird Antiques and Uniques (right across the street from the wonderful Bluebird Home Decor).  Diane and Sherri will greet you with a warm welcome and you'll feel a little like you've stepped into a chapter of your past, and probably leave with a bag of goodies for yourself and the memorabilia lover in your life.
Dirty Bird is located at 1851 Route 9, Castleton-on-Hudson NY (for GPS purposes), a quick and easy 15 minute drive from downtown Albany. Please note they are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.  To read my earlier post about Dirty Bird: Finding Beauty & Inspiration in the Old & New at Dirty Bird Antiques & Uniques  and for more information, you can follow them on Facebook....https://www.facebook.com/dirtybirdantiquesanduniques .
