Finding beauty in a broken world
is creating beauty in the world we find.
-Terry Tempest Williams
Think about that for a minute. Some might say our world is a little broken, at the very least one might say it's impaired. These past few years have certainly been challenging, and at times depressing and discouraging. For those who have been personally affected by Covid, those who have persisted in not letting their guard down, those who long for a time when the pandemic is in the rear-view mirror, it is sometimes difficult to find the beauty in life.
I personally struggle with finding beauty to capture during these muddy weeks before snow falls. In fact I recently told someone there wouldn't be anything to photograph now until the snow cover. I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong in that assessment when I took a ride to Easton to deliver some calendars and was reminded that beauty is, as the quote states, something we create. We create it through eyes of gratitude and intent. I returned to Easton yesterday, this time with my camera, and traveled two roads (in both directions) and a couple others on my route home and was amazed at the beauty I found.

So you see, the trees might be leaf barren and the December grass may still be green instead of frosty white, but if you look closely with eyes wide open and skepticism aside, you'll find there's plenty of beauty all around you. Of course, I'm a little biased when it comes to Easton but I think you can agree there's a lot to love about these parts, not just in summer or frosty winter - but all year long.
Let this be a reminder that in every season of life, even the stormy ones, there's always something to be grateful for.
