Autumn in New England ... I don't know anyone who doesn't love it. And while autumn is certainly splendid throughout the northeast, many equate autumn in New England with Vermont. Home of the Green Mountains, Vermont provides some pretty spectacular autumn scenery. One of our favorite pastimes is just getting in the car and driving aimlessly through the countryside and that's just what we did last week. On this day, although we set out with no particular destination, we ended up in Vermont at several of our favorite spots. I thought I'd share them with you . This post is short on words because October photos speak for themselves. Buckle up and come along as I take you to the Green Mountain State before the foliage was at its peak but definitely on its way!
We began our trip by way of Fitch Road, one of our favorite roads no matter the season.
One of our favorite things to do is to take detours off main roads, often on dirt or gravel roads. We do this for a couple reasons...1) there are often beautiful structures on back roads and 2) there's less traffic making it easier and safer to stop for photo ops.
Why hello there!
While in Vermont, mingle with a moose!
We stumbled upon this farm a few years ago and just fell in love. I took several photos from every angle, so you'll be seeing this one again soon.
Everyone's favorite stop - Equinox Valley Nursery in Manchester, VT
Quick stop at Hildene to buy some books for the grandbabies. Did you know they have the most amazing gift shoppe?? It's open to the public too (it's where you buy tickets to tour Hildene). We didn't do that today since we've been before, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the view while we were there!

On through Manchester across from the beautiful Equinox Resort
A short jaunt up Route 30 and a stop at the Dorset Marble Quarry.
And before you know it, it was time to head home. This lovely day began around 9:00 and lasted till after 5:00pm. We had a lovely lunch at Chauncey's Restaurant which is between Arlington and Manchester. It was our first time there. We chose it because of great Trip Advisor reviews. A little crowded and slow that day but very delicious, home cooking at a reasonable price.
Thanks for reading! Come back soon because you never know where the road may lead!
Such beautiful photos! Vermont is one of my favorite places to go!
