It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year at George's Market

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

I love it when I do a blog post on a treasure that is a well-kept secret, but that certainly won't be the case with today's post.  I'm pretty sure almost everyone will be familiar with today's feature because this one has been around a long time.......a really long time.  I'm talking about George's Market in Latham, NY.

George's Market isn't exactly a new kid on the block.  In fact they've been around since 1891 when George the first, (current George, George III's grandfather) opened a produce stand on the Troy Schenectady Road. George's dad, George Jr. brought greenhouses into the family business in 1930. The business is now being run by George III and his wife Cathy with the help of their son, George IV and daughter, Lauren.  Six years ago George's Market moved and expanded - big time - to Wade Road Extension into a giant building where they carry so much more than plants......so, so much more!!!  I discovered what a great place George's is a few Christmases ago and have been going back ever since.  I think my photos will explain why.  In case you thought George's was all about green things and landscaping ....I'm here today to enlighten you.  While those may be the staple of George's business and may be what they are known for, there's so much more awaiting you inside of George's Market.  Take a look at what you'll find these days - where George's Market is Christmas Central!

For the animal lovers........
George's has more ornaments than I've ever seen - anywhere.  If you can't find it here, you can't find it anywhere.  George's has themed trees in a multitude of varieties....

Firefighter Theme
Military Theme
Sports
There's even a themed tree for the babies in your life!

And then there are angels and nativities...

And all sorts of beautiful decor for the home and entertaining.....

And gifts for the special people on your list...
This is just a tiny fraction of the beautiful gift items you can find at George's!!
Nothing like a Magical Key to leave for Santa!

For the sweet lover......

I have a feeling these chocolates would bring a smile to anyone on your gift list!

And of course George's wouldn't be George's if they didn't have greenery!  Did you know the folks at George's Market will personalize your fresh wreath or centerpiece?  Just look at all the pretty things you can select for your hand-decorated pieces:

Of course they have a huge array of poinsettia's and holiday plants too!

I think you get the idea!  George's Market has everything you need this Christmas!  This past weekend (when I was there to shoot these photos), George's was hosting their annual Open House, an event they've held every year since moving into this location six years ago.  This was some Open House......attended by 300+ of George's regular shoppers both Friday and Saturday nights, most of whom were invited from their mailing list.  To thank their customers, the owners of George's, George & Cathy, put on the most wonderful spread which consisted of hor d'oeuvres served by friendly staff, a gigantic fruit and cheese platter, homemade ziti (made by Cathy), two kinds of meatballs, fresh dinner rolls and fresh carved roasted turkey with cranberry mayo.  There was a wine bar, punch and coffee and a never-ending mountain of cider donuts, cookies and brownies.  As if all that weren't enough, guests were entertained from 6-8:00 by the fabulous Cat & the Kringles featuring Diane Geddes, Cathy Roland, Josh Greenberg, Tom Giaquinto and John Hines.  Music added just the right mood to the mix with a string of oldies and favorites, laced with holiday tunes.  What an awesome way to thank their customers!  In addition, they also collected  food for the St. Ambrose Food Pantry and toys for the Toy's for Tots.  It's easy to see why this family owned and operated business has been around for decades.
Christmas trees will be arriving this weekend and Santa will be in the house Saturday & Sunday December 5 & 6th, and 12th & 13th from 11:00-2:00.  You won't want to miss that!  Be sure to check out George's Market for all your holiday and landscaping needs.  For more information, use the links below for their website and Facebook Page.  Stick around because this isn't the last installment in my series.
