When A Place Feels Like Home.....An Easton Evening

Home is not a place...it's a feeling.
Remember that girl, the one with the ruby slippers, who said, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home"?  Anyone who knows me, knows that I live by that motto.  Although I may roam the back roads often, I'm happiest when I'm close to home.  What constitutes 'home' for me has broadened a bit in the past few years, and while I prefer to lay my head on the same pillow, in the same house every night, there are a few places that make me feel at home.  One of them is Easton, NY.  You know what I mean...those places that just feel right, make you feel like you belong, make you feel at home.

Whenever I'm in search of a change of scenery, but scenery that still feels comforting, it seems like we find ourselves traveling the back roads of Easton.  It doesn't matter what season it is, Easton always feels 'right'.  We took a couple of rides to Easton last week - one in the afternoon and on the recommendation of a reader, one in the evening.  Casey remarked about what great sunsets can be seen in Easton, and I love sunsets, so it's no surprise we took her advice.  Morning, afternoon or evening, Easton is about as picture perfect as it gets!  If you know me, you know two trips amounts to a large number of photographs....too many for one post.  So for now I'll share our evening visit because there's nothing like the golden hour to bring out the best in everything!

We came to one house and there in plain sight were two deer, standing perfectly still.  I said to John, "Are they statues?  He said, "yes they are".  Just then, both moved, ever so slightly.  Eventually one returned to the cover of the tree line, but one hung around for a few photos.  We saw about a dozen in the course of our travels that night!

What a beautiful place to live and visit! Easton sure soothes my soul. Driving around, day or evening, with the windows open, listening to the birds and peepers....it doesn't get much more tranquil.  People today are in such a hurry - eating fast, working fast, focused on their phones, driven to achieve and make money.  Slow down.  Look out your window and see the world around you.  Appreciate the view!  If you haven't explored the back roads of Easton and surrounding towns, you don't know what you're missing. Besides beautiful vistas, I've met the nicest folk there too! Thanks Casey for the recommendation. I see more evening rides to Easton in my future. I've been asked to label the roads in my photos. I'd love to, but we circle back and forth and often when I look at the photos later, I can't always figure out where I was.  More then once we've tried to re-visit a particular spot and can't remember where it was. On this trip we traveled Wilbur Avenue, Burton Road, Easton Station Road, Brownell Road, Vly Summit Road, Meeting House Road, Cooke Hollow Road, Cheesecake Factory Road, Sarles Ferry Road and some I'm probably forgetting. Some are probably in Cambridge too!  It's all beautiful.  Stay tuned to more Easton coming soon!
Thanks for spending time here at Life As I See It.  It's always nice having you!  If you know anyone who enjoys the beauty of the country, please share this post with them.  If you see your property, let me know.  I'm always happy to share the original digital image.  Have an awesome week and remember.....there's no place like home ....wherever that might be for you!

  1. I absolutely love back country roads. Just wasn’t ready to head home after attending a craft fair today, so I took an hour long country road drive in whatever direction moved me. When I saw your photos and read about your love of Easton, I knew it was a place I had to explore. Thank you! Really enjoy your page.
