Part of the Southern Tier region of NYS, Delaware County, consisting of approximately 14,000 square miles was founded in 1797. Picturesque mountains line the landscape and river valleys provide beautiful vistas in all directions. The county population is about 44,740 and the median income around $50,000. We first experienced Delaware County's beauty when our youngest attended SUNY Delhi back in 2002. Some may find Delhi to be a sleepy little town with a handful of stores, a few eateries and a quaint 'main street' but the college proved the perfect choice for our hospitality student and we loved visiting, especially the scenic ride out I-88.
This past weekend we took a drive to Delaware County to visit the Hobart Book Village in Hobart NY. In 2005 Don Dales, a local entrepreneur, established the only book village east of the Mississippi in historical Hobart, New York. Today there are 8 independent bookshops as well as Art Galleries, Home Embellishment, Vintage Clothing and Antiques shops in the village. (http://www.hobartbookvillage.com/ ) Once we finished browsing a few of the shops, we ventured across the countryside to enjoy the breathtaking views, old barns, historic churches. Come along on our Delaware County adventure........
