It's Time for Another Visit to the Vischer Ferry General Store!

Friday, March 11, 2016
With the arrival of spring-like weather this week, John and I decided to carpe diem to get out and about for a little blog research.  Just like any homework, driving around in search of great material works up an appetite so we jumped on the opportunity to pay a visit to our friends at the Vischer Ferry General Store......always a perfect destination for satisfying your shopping and appetite cravings!

If you are new to the blog or missed my earlier post featuring this great new addition to the area, the link will be included at the end of this post.  The Vischer Ferry General Store has a long and rich history and thanks to a bunch of dedicated and driven friends and neighbors, it is open once again (since December) serving local residents and visitors alike.    Whether you are in the mood for breakfast, lunch or snacks, you'll find something amazing to quench your appetite.  Although I've been dying to have another of their signature Egg Sandwiches ever since our first visit, the March sandwich special - a corned beef sandwich - was calling my name.  The menu is a simple one, featuring a few regular sandwiches and a daily sandwich, daily salad and daily soup.  The soups are delicious, so we ordered a cup of soup to share....Chickpea, Kale and Wild Rice......

We split our sandwich...........

and ordered something to take home for later.......a coconut macaroon and a meringue cookie!!!  OH
MY GOSH...... If you are thinking these look amazing, I'm here to tell you they taste even better than you can imagine!

These meringue cookies are about 3" big!

Then Anouk, resident store partner and chef/baker extraordinaire, brought us out a sample of a new offering - an apple snack cake.  Helloooooo.......taste buds.

So moist and delicious!  The only thing as wonderful as the food at the General Store is the warm hospitality.  Anouk, in addition to doing all the cooking and baking, takes time to greet all the customers, old and new, with a warm smile and a genuine and sincere welcome.  Unlike the typical diner or restaurant, seating at the store is mostly communal - either at one long table or one of two counters.  This is intentional so as to encourage old fashioned community spirit where patrons visit with each other.  In keeping with the General Store theme, the merchandise offered includes that of local artisans as well as books and photographs of the local area.  Here's a little sample of what you'll find when you visit:

Look at these felt birdhouses!!  Fit for the outdoors, complete with an opening at the bottom, aren't they just the cutest?!?!

If you're looking for somewhere new, someplace other than your typical burger joint or chain restaurant, someplace with fresh, delicious food and baked goods, make it a point to stop by the Vischer Ferry General Store this weekend!  I promise you won't be disappointed.  If you love macaroons.....you MUST try these.  So incredibly moist and delicious!  And large, I couldn't even finish one at one sitting!  The General Store is open Wednesday-Sunday, 8:00am-3:00pm and is located at 357 Riverview Road in Rexford, NY.    To read my earlier blog post and see more photos, just click on this link:  http://www.lifeasiseeitphotography.net/2015/12/the-vischer-ferry-general-store-where.html   To read more about the store's history, check out their website at: http://vischerferrygeneralstore.com/    Thanks for reading!  I hope you stop by and say hi to all the friendly staff at the Vischer Ferry General Store and tell them Life As I See It sent you!

While you're nearby, take advantage of the day and take a stroll down the canal at the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve!  Check out my post all about it:  http://www.lifeasiseeitphotography.net/2014/04/vischer-ferry-nature-and-historic.html
