Warming Up a Frigid Day with a Hot Meal at Jimmy's Egg

Brrrrrr.......Winter has arrived.....with a vengeance!  It's a frigid ten degrees outside, but cabin fever got me out of the house for a little grocery shopping and a lunch date.  Food is a great motivator, isn't it?    I'm certainly not a food critic, nor a food blogger, but I do know good food when I taste it, and when I find a place I like, I enjoy sharing it with my readers.   Today I want to tell you about the newest joint in town - Jimmy's Egg.

Jimmy's Egg, located on Clifton Park Center Road in the old Brickhouse Pizza location, and former Record Town location, might be new to Clifton Park, but it's not a new chain.  In fact, it's been around for over 30 years.  Like it's name implies, Jimmy's is a breakfast and lunch restaurant specializing in "Cracked-to-Order" eggs, griddle entries, omelettes, salads and some lunch selections as well.  We went for lunch but opted for breakfast food.  I love breakfast out and was not disappointed in our decision.

We got lucky today because it was fairly quiet with plenty of seats available.  Our waitress told us that yesterday the line was out the door.  We chose a booth far from the door where we could be warm and took some time to study the very extensive menu.  The first thing I noticed was how delicious the coffee was.  I love coffee, but at home I use flavored creamer.  Normally when I'm out I find the coffee so strong I need tons of half & half and sugar, but the coffee at Jimmy's was amazing.  What I also loved was this nifty cup of flavored creamers!  Today I only had to use one pod and one sugar and because it was so delicious, I really enjoyed the endless cup.  (Remind me of that when I can't sleep tonight.)  I wanted to sample as much as possible so I ordered the "Jimmy's Classic Combo" - really more suited to a hungry man's appetite.  At $9 something, this combo came with 2 eggs, 2 meats and 2 sides.  I opted for Eggs Over Medium (whites cooked, yolks a little runny), bacon and sausage links, hash browns (topped with optional grilled onions for .50 extra) and homemade thick-sliced white toast.  I could have eaten half of my breakfast, but John was happy to help out and we brought home some hash browns.

John ordered the Ultimate Pancake Combo which consisted of a short stack of flavored pancakes, two eggs, bacon and a sausage patty.  His pancakes were topped with strawberries and granola.  He was only able to eat half.  Our bill including tax with a endless coffee and a lemonade came to $25.74, not fast food cheap, but definitely a ton of food for the price and everything was hot, fresh and delicious. Certainly not an everyday kind of breakfast, but then again, who eats like that everyday?  There were loads of smaller and cheaper options available for the conscientious eater.

Good food always makes any dining experience a success, but good service is always the frosting on the cake.  We hit the jackpot because our server, Sammy (Samantha) was a doll.  People can be trained to be efficient and polite, but then there's those servers that are just sweet and accommodating naturally and that was Sammy.  Always smiling and genuinely interested in answering our questions and making sure our visit was satisfying, Sammy was exactly the kind of server any establishment hopes to employ.  I'm sure there's some big career in Sammy's future, but for now she is shining  on each and every customer she serves.  It doesn't matter how great the food is if the service is mediocre, and thanks to Sammy, everything about our meal at Jimmy's Egg was top notch.  I hope they realize what a gem they have!   It's so refreshing to see a young person invested and giving 100%  to their job and not just there 'doing their time'.

Post Script:  We visited Jimmy's Egg again on March 7 and I'm happy to report we received the same excellent service as our first visit.  Our meals were fresh, hot and delicious!  Holly, co-owner of Jimmy's says they are experience a little trouble keeping up with the Sunday morning crowd, but that they're working hard to provide the best quality service and appreciate everyone's continued business.  If you haven't visited Jimmy's Egg yet, or had a disappointing experience during their first month of business, please check it out again.  It's really a wonderful addition to Clifton Park's eateries!
