The Coxsackie Owls are Back!

Monday, June 3, 2024

It's been a few years, but the Coxsackie Owls are back on their perches all around the village and more colorful and creative than ever!

The What a Hoot Festival has been a tradition in Coxsackie since 2017, when it coincided with the village's 150th anniversary.  After a short break following Covid, the owls are back for the summer season and will be auctioned off on September 29th at the Wire Event Center.  This year 39 owls are on display plus a cat from the Catskill Cat exhibit and a bear from the Cairo bears.   Although there is a map to help visitors find them, we still missed a couple because we were using the map on my phone. I recommend you stop at one of the sponsoring businesses and pick up a brochure!  Here's my collection (I recommend you go see them in person - the details are incredible and hidden all around each owl).

While you're in Coxsackie, meander around town and have a bite to eat or sit a spell at Riverside Park.  We had a wonderful lunch at Red's (sponsor of the Disco Dazzler).  Not only did we have a delicious lunch (you can't beat the prix fix specials under $22), we had an awesome waiter, Ryan, who gave us the most courteous and efficient service even though it was his first week on the job.

For more information about the Festival, check their website:
https://www.coxsackieowls.com/ and Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HootoftheOwl   Just a short drive from Albany, down the thruway or Route 9W, a scavenger hunt for these gorgeous owls is the perfect getaway.  Maps can now be found at these businesses: Village building
Greene County tourism, County Armory, Paul’s pizza, Bank of Greene County, Coxsackie branch
National Bank of Coxsackie, Salon 255, Reed St Bottle Shop, Coxsackie Creamery, Heart Land Realty, Coxsackie General Store, James Newbury Hotel, The YMCA, Camping World…. more locations to be added.
