The Speckled Hen - Where Christmas Spirit Abounds

Thursday, December 5, 2019
Marjorie  Holmes was quoted as saying, "All roads lead home at Christmas", but for us Christmas addicts, all roads lead to The Speckled Hen.  Actually, that's true of every holiday, every season even for no particular reason.  Why?  Because there's so much to love at The Speckled Hen and it all begins with its owner, Maureen Culver.  Longtime blog readers have probably wondered why I haven't done any shop blogs lately.  The reason is two-fold....one, it's hard to give equal time to all my favorite businesses and two, even though my blog byline is 'Collecting Moments, Not Things'.....I have a weak spot when it comes to collecting things.  That's especially true at The Speckled Hen.  Christmas is probably my biggest weakness and The Speckled Hen is represented in almost every vignette all around my Christmas displays.  I've already made my annual holiday pilgrimage to The Hen before Thanksgiving, but when Maureen posted a video of the shop tonight (her first late evening of the holiday season), the softly lit, cozy ambiance beckoned me out of my house and to the shop so I could capture Christmas in all it's glory to share with you here on the blog.

One of the many reasons I love The Speckled Hen is the fact that it really doesn't matter what your decorating style, because Maureen has something for everybody, from elegant to country, primitive to traditional.   We all love that Maureen is able to help shoppers put together the perfect grouping or fill a container with just the right greenery.  It doesn't matter if you know exactly what you want or have no idea, Maureen will listen to what you have in mind, maybe look at a picture of an area you are trying to accessorize, and finds just the right items to make any surface area or wall look like a magazine.  Her whole store looks like a cozy home, filled with a variety of pretty things for every season of the year.  But tonight....well tonight it looked like the warmest and coziest place at Christmas and I may or may not have brought a few things home to add to my already large Speckled Hen collection.  How could I not?  A word of warning....you'll have to scroll a lot because there were just too many great vignettes.  I had to share a bunch.

It's easy to see why Maureen loves her shop! Who wouldn't love it? So cozy and inviting. Don't we all wish our home looked like this?  Maureen's heart isn't just evident in her desire to help her customers go home happy.  Each year Maureen chooses a charity, a cause, and collects donations for that cause.  This year Maureen is collecting money to purchase a Freedom Chair for Gunnery Sergeant William Ward.  Sergeant Ward served in the Marines for 16 years and was injured in a motorcycle accident.  He hasn't let that keep him down and for the past 3 years he has participated in the Veteran's Wheelchair Games, winning a gold ribbon in the obstacle course.  What a great guy and great cause!
If you haven't been to the Speckled Hen yet, or recently....GO!!!!   The Hen is located at 38 Saratoga Road (Route 50) in Glenville NY.  Her normal hours are Wednesday-Saturday, but right now she has special holiday hours so check her Facebook page for those specific hours.

I'm hoping to bring you a string of holiday related blog posts in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.  As always, thanks for reading. I hope you'll share today's post using the links below and visit The Speckled Hen soon.  Tell Maureen I sent you.  You can also subscribe to receive new posts in your email by signing up HERE,   For previous posts on some other favorite shops, check the blog Directory under the Category "Let's Shop".  Till next time.....stay warm!
