Since 1975, the Guilderland Garden Club has been decorating the beautiful 1802 home of Nicholas Mynderse. Mynderse, a merchant from Schenectady, built the home and operated a tavern and inn there. He was elected supervisor for the newly-formed town of Guilderland in 1803. Mynderse died in 1820 and the home was bought by Michael Frederick. The house was used as a tavern until 1900 and remained a private residence until 1940. Each year, the Garden Club decorates the home based on a different theme - this year's theme was Winter Wonderland. Garden club members work together and separately to create beautiful, fresh handmade wreaths and flower arrangements for the house (and for sale during the Greens Show). All weekend visitors got to tour the house, enjoy delicious baked goods and listen to a variety of music in a beautiful period setting. This was our first visit to the show and I hope once you see how lovely it was, you'll make a point to visit next year. Here's a glimpse of Christmas at the Mynderse-Frederick House.
