Red or Blue? Not the Parties, The Backyard Birds

Sunday, November 1, 2020
Whew it's been a busy week! I don't know about you, but time is flying. Anybody besides me in disbelief that we're already in November? This is a big week for our country and I think I can safely say everyone is on pins and needles in anticipation of the outcome of this week's election. To the many who emailed me in support of my last blog, thank you!!! As I expected, I did lose a couple of subscribers. Someone told me I was courageous to write that blog, and maybe that's true. Hopefully I didn't offend too many because that definitely was not my intention. So let's lighten things up today and focus on some red and blue - not the political parties or candidates - my backyard birds! Who's your favorites? Red or Blue?

From fall to winter, in the blink of an eye....there's nothing much prettier than a cardinal in snow...or maybe a purple finch.

When I watch the birds at my backyard feeders, it amazes me how all the species, large and small, seem to co-exist, each taking their turn. Yes, there are some bossy birds and a certain level of hierarchy, but overall everyone finds a peaceful space to co-exist and thrive.  Why can't us humans do the same?  Why can't we respect each others' space, values, and opinions without dissention and disrespect?  Our world is so much larger than my backyard cafe so why do so many feel the need to bully others who look different or live differently than us?  Whether you're rooting for Team Red or Team Blue this week, know that though I may not agree with you, I respect you.  I may be rooting for a different outcome, but I'm rooting for a world where there's room for all of us, united under one flag.....Red, White and Blue.
