Vintage Reinvented at Bluebird Home Decor

Happy Saturday Folks!
Since beginning my blog over a year ago, some of my most popular posts have been  the ones in my series that feature local businesses...... namely unique stores.  Well, hang on to your hats because I have another winner for you today.....Bluebird Home Decor.   A friend pointed me to Bluebird last spring but it wasn't until this week that I finally made my way to Downtown Troy to check it out.  I'd been following Bluebird on Instagram for a while now and have been lusting after some paintings....particularly some moon paintings......and eventually my willpower gave out and ........ well, you know what happened next.
Nicolle Broughton - Owner of Bluebird Home Decor
At the ripe old age of 23, Nicolle Broughton, a graduate of SUNY Oneonta with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Textiles, decided to follow her passion for vintage furniture and opened her business, Bluebird Home Decor.  Now two years later in her second location Nicolle's store is filled with treasures, old and new.  Having grown up in a home with an artist mom, Nicolle's love of art and vintage began at a very early age.  Her mom, Shelly Broughton, who has been painting for over 20 years, is one of the store's main attractions and the reason I had to visit.  From irresistible animals to florals, to her enchanting moon series, Shelly's talent and eye for beauty has definitely spilled over to Nicolle and that is evident in every direction you turn in this unique store.....one that Nicolle refers to as a 'Lifestyle Store'.

These unique lights are the creation of artist William Cross.  Recently featured in the Troy Record newpaper, (http://www.troyrecord.com/lifestyle/20150724/five-questions) William uses old, discarded items and re-purposes them into all sorts of unusual and fun pieces.
He also creates one of a kind home furnishings like this coffee table.....and he even converts old vintage tube radios into Bluetooth radios..as pictured on the right in the photo below.
William's work can be seen throughout the store and on his facebook page...https://www.facebook.com/OddLotNY

Whether it's inspiring quotes on re-purposed wood........  gorgeous hand-painted artwork....
hand-woven textile wall hangings in the photo below......(each one made by Nicolle)

or cute canvas bags and pillows....
you won't run out beautiful and unusual things to see and buy - for yourself or some lucky person in your life.

More unique pieces by William Cross.....

Does it seem like you've seen it all with all these photos....I promise you haven't.  Like all the best shops, Bluebird Home Decor is filled to the brim - every nook and cranny - with one cool thing after another.  Whether you love hand-painted original works of art, decorate with vintage treasures or just want to be inspired by the vision and determination of a young woman who was passionate enough about her dreams to make them happen.....there are a million reasons to visit Bluebird Home Decor.  Check it out soon!   Bluebird is located at 11 3rd Street in Troy, NY.  If you're there long enough, you'll work up an appetite and if you do, stroll around the corner and have a delicious lunch at the Whistling Kettle where I got this amazing salad and lobster bisque!

Thank you Nicolle for the opportunity to showcase your world!   You are an inspiration...not just for young people but for all of us to embrace our dreams and to do whatever it takes to make them a reality!
