Autumn's in the Air and on the Shelves at The Olde Mercantile

Friday, September 11, 2015
Are you ready for a little Autumn yet??  It may be the prequel to winter, but after the long, humid summer we've had here in New York, I'm ready for fall.  I love almost everything about the season.....from the changing leaves, colorful mums, pumpkins and bittersweet, apple farms and cooler temps!  But not everything fall happens outdoors - there's some pretty awesome signs of fall inside, especially inside of today's feature store, The Olde Mercantile!
I'm pretty sure you're already familiar with The Olde Mercantile, after all it's the #7 most popular post in my blog!  Yup - #7 out of 167 posts.  That must mean something and I'm betting today's post just might knock that one off the charts.  When I last visited the Mercantile, it was located in East Greenbush but was scheduled to move to Cohoes.  Well, that move took place and now you can visit the Olde Mercantile on Remsen Street, in Cohoes, my birthplace!  The move to Cohoes afforded Dolores Bacon, shop owner, a much larger space (which has already expanded since their move in May) and much more parking.  Located in the old Masonic Temple, this storefront is so unique.....from it's beautiful architecture..... to its high ceilings....to all the wonderful treasures inside.
Dolores describes her store as a collection of country and primitive decor, and although I'm focusing today mostly on seasonal merchandise, the store is filled with a variety of things from housewares to headbands, handbags to antiques from over 50 different vendors......all at very reasonable, budget-friendly prices.  It's one of those shops that beckons you to wander around and around and around again.  Although I spent about 60 minutes photographing several nooks and crannies, uploading the photos provided surprises of so many things I missed while I was there.  Take a look.....you'll see what I mean!
In case you're not in the market for seasonal items.....you're still in luck.  You'll find all sorts of beautiful items for your home.  Here's a sneak peak at just a few booths featuring loads of everyday decor beginning with my favorite.....I could have brought home everything in this booth!

And that's not even all of it!  I can't spoil all your fun.   You've got to go and see the rest for yourself!  So whether you're looking to spruce up your home for fall, or need a great gift for someone special, stop by The Olde Mercantile soon.  You will love it and you can tell Dolores you heard about it here!  The Olde Mercantile is open Wednesday 10:00-3:00, Thursday and Friday 10:00-5:00, Saturday 10:00-4:00 and Sunday 11:00-4:00.  Thank you Dolores and Dolly for your warm and friendly welcome and for the opportunity to feature The Olde Mercantile!  Again, they are located at 130 Remsen Street in Cohoes, NY.    To reach them by phone, you can call 518-244-3974.  Check out their facebook page using the link below:
Stay tuned for many more posts focused on some great places to visit and things to do this fall!  If you have any great autumn treasures you'd like to see featured here.... leave a comment! I'm always looking for new places to explore and share with you all!
If this is your first visit to Life As I See It, please take a moment to browse around and explore some of the neat places I feature and if you like what you see, please tell a friend!

  2. The Olde Mercantile...another one of my faves!! I've been following Dolores since she worked at New Old Stuff that has since relocated in the Carolina's and then When she leased out Krafts By Kim in East Greenbush. Dolores is a happy, spunky woman so full of life and creates such a cozy country atmosphere. This location in Cohoes is perfect!! This is another shoppe I can literally spend an hour or so in, so much to choose from and the atmosphere is so comfortable with Dolores, you don't feel rushed out. Perfect place to pick up that special gift!! -Penny B
